Six layouts to try, from your first patch of grass to an underwater home. Open a habitat to check its exact requirements, or add it to your project planner.

A compact first habitat beside a tree

  1. Place four tall-grass tiles in a tight 2 × 2 patch.
  2. Put a tree beside the patch so its shade reaches the grass.
  3. Leave a walkable edge to inspect visitors without crowding the habitat.

Give a grass patch an edge of water

  1. Place four tall-grass tiles together.
  2. Add two water tiles against the edge of the grass.
  3. Keep the path on the dry side so the habitat remains easy to visit.

  2. Place four wildflowers against the hedge.
  3. Use paths and seating outside the habitat footprint for a clean approach.

Start an underwater habitat with seabed grass and coral

  1. Cluster four seabed tall-grass pieces.
  2. Place one small coral and one tall coral against the patch.
  3. Leave room around the edges to swim through and check for visitors.

Buoyant-block walkway

An elevated route through your underwater town

  1. Mark a short crossing where you want the route to float.
  2. Support the walkway with buoyant blocks.
  3. Add rails or other details after testing that the route is easy to follow.

  1. Make an enclosed room with a door; keep its footprint within the game’s recognized room limit.
  2. Place three different furniture pieces inside, such as a bed, light and table.
  3. Add color and ocean furniture after the basic room is recognized.
